Just wondering what the oppo consensus is on this. When I see a nicely modified one in-person, I’m into it. Photos don’t really capture the R35's presence. That said, it’s also 10 years old at this point, and at least 50% of them are bought by people with horrible taste:
Furthermore, the people who modify them like this also tend to drive like maniacs.

I love me some R35. Gotta appreciate the engineering behind it.

When it was brand new: Yes
Current beast NISMO: Yes
Everything else: NO

when new: yes
a relatively stock or MORONICALLY over power example (think alpha 12 package) with no crazy visual mods? yes
the chromed out...thing in the post? no

The GTR is “cool” but I don’t care for the look of any of them past the R34. I’ve been in a modded one and was thoroughly impressed, still not my cup of tea.

It’s still cool.
It’s also hard to not drive it like a maniac.

Nah. It’s the least cool Skyline because you can buy it here and there’s no air of mystery surrounding it; No longer forbidden fruit. That, and Nissan saw fit to increase the MSRP from $70K to $110K in 8 years. Meanwhile, the Corvette went from $45K to $55K over the same period. Not cool at all. The 911 Turbo has gone from $127K in 2008 to $160 now, which is in line with the Corvette price increase (around 22%-26%), but the GT-R is asking for a whopping 57% premium over it’s introductory price.

Corvette also had a new generation during that price increase while the Datsun is basically the same car. Mega uncool.

Not a fan. not even a little tiny bit.

They look pretty cool stock with a duck tail spoiler especially. I’d love to drive one, they must be so fast for someone like me that’s never driven anything remotely as quick as on of those.

It’s hard to say. On the one hand its performance is undeniable and it’s AWD make gives it a huge advantage over a Corvette or Viper, and most 911s. But it’s also bigger and heavier that any of those cars.
I think it’s a cool car, but I don’t think I’d ever buy one even if I was that kind of wealthy. But I’m predisposed to ignor any car over 100,000 dollars any way, I just don’t see the point in a vehicle that cost that much.

I know numerous people whose dream car is the R35.
im liek bruh

I the the car is cool, and the price adds the cool factor to it. However it’s not building Nissan an image with regular folks. They are pretty much dead to us.

Completely agree. Especially when it’s in a subdued grey, black or white for extra sleeper Nissan status while hiding a crazy tune.
I secretly want a grey GTR with an Alpha 12 package. No visual mods aside from Volk TE37s and sticky Michelin PSS tires.

It was cool when it was a bargain supercar-killer.
Now it’s just as expensive and no faster than the competition, so it lost the cool factor.

Agreed. I really want an R33. And wow I didn’t realize that they weren’t reasonably priced anymore... that makes the interior totally unacceptable!!

There was a GTR with a pearlescent teal/purple wrap at the last show I went to. Not good. And yes, these are definitely still cool when modified with a purpose in mind (half mile racing, track days, etc)

concise and 100% accurate

Yeah it just hasn’t kept up with modern trends. I don’t think it’s a $100k design, not with it’s current styling/interior.

The engineering is undeniably the best part, especially the hand built motors
![]() 11/03/2016 at 12:10 |

Oh yeah without a doubt, way too much car for me. Not that I could afford one lol

Yep the classics are the best. r33 for me plz
![]() 11/03/2016 at 12:11 |

well said. there are too many lighter 400+ horsepower options out there now

More Koenigseggs for the rest of us then!

these people don’t even drive like responsible maniacs though! not in my area at least
![]() 11/03/2016 at 12:15 |

To me, not really. If you plopped a R34 GT-R next to a R35, I’m pretty sure I’d take the older car, even though it’s slower and not as “nice.” The R35 just hasn’t ever done it for me, and for the prices they still command (cheapest one I could find was a ‘09 for over $50k), it just seems crazy.

Nissan hand-picked four master craftsmen, Takumi, to build each engine to microscopic accuracy.
It really is the modern Katana in terms of build quality and accuracy.

I think it’s an insanely cool car. Capable of some crazy things, and looks pretty killer. A monster on the track, and in the snow it turns out!
A guy by my house in Minneapolis throws blizacks on his and dd’s it all winter. It’s an awesome color, like a metallic deep blue. It’s so fun to watch a GTR slide around in almost a foot of snow and listen to that exhaust note. Super cool car.
It’s a bummer that a large amount of them are bought and immediately modified in the most distasteful ways possible.
![]() 11/03/2016 at 12:42 |

Yes.
Not in a chrome wrap like the second picture, but yes, it’s cool.
![]() 11/03/2016 at 12:52 |

I really wish I could’ve picked a first gen one when they were still like $70k cdn lol. Also, I don’t think I’ve ever seen those rims in the first pic.

My vote, not cool. Too heavy, ugly, and bought almost exclusively by nouveau riche evo kids.

Nope
![]() 11/03/2016 at 14:23 |

What about the price is cool ?
![]() 11/03/2016 at 14:39 |

My vote is for cool! It’s an engineering masterpiece, so to me that makes it cool anyways.
![]() 11/03/2016 at 15:48 |

Cool and still a solid perfomer against cars that aren’t halfway to being antique, but WTF happened to the price creep on these things? I’ve always wondered.
![]() 11/03/2016 at 16:57 |

Personally I think it’s a cool car. Usually the owners are reprehensible.
![]() 11/04/2016 at 00:23 |

It’s neither pretty or interesting enough to be cool. Imho. Maybe I don’t “get” the GT-R, but I’ve never been into it.

I’m not a hater or anything.. but I honestly don’t really care much for it. I prefer the older generations of Skylines over the R35.

Yes.
![]() 11/04/2016 at 19:18 |

They’re as cool as any Skyline. Which means they’re capable, but a bunch of children who think lap times are what makes a road car think they’re better than they are.

If you have that kind of money you can probably afford to have a posse follow you around.

It’s attainable, I certainly wouldn’t mind one.
